Pay Online: With “My Utilities Account” from City of Palo Alto Utilities, you can pay your bills at any time, view your bills, stop an existing service, update personal information and view your historic usage. You can make payments from a checking account or with your credit card. To make your City of Palo Alto Utilities bill payment online click the “Pay Online” button below to login, register, view your bill or manage your account online.

Automated Bank Draft Program: This service gives you a really convenient way to pay for your monthly bills. Payments are transferred from your checking account automatically each month, at no extra charge. To sign up for the service, complete the Bank Draft Application (available at the City of Palo Alto Utilities website) and mail it to: Customer Service Center – 2nd Floor, 250 Hamilton Ave, Palo Alto, CA 94301. Also send a voided check. Once “DO NOT PAY” appears on your monthly payment, you are paying automatically.

Pay in Person: You can pay for your bill in person at the City of Palo Alto Administrative Services Department – Revenue Collections Counter.

Pay By Mail: The City of Palo Alto Utilities bill payment address is: P. O. Box 7026, San Francisco CA 94120-7026. Please note – this is a new payment address. Payments sent to the old payment address may be returned to sender. Checks are accepted. Please include your City of Palo Alto Utilities account number on your check. Your account number is located on your statement. To ensure your City of Palo Alto Utilities payment is received on time it is recommended that you mail your payment at least 5 business days prior to the due date shown on your monthly billing statement.

Open or Close an Account

Open a New Account: To open a new account, complete the City of Palo Alto Request for Residential Utilities Service, which is available at the City of Palo Alto Utilities website. New accounts for family homes or duplexes require a deposit of $100. Apartments require a deposit of $50.

Close an Existing Account: You can close your account via the online account service, or with the form provided at the City of Palo Alto Utilities website.

Rebates and Assistance Programs

City of Palo Alto Utilities rewards residents that are water and energy efficient. The utility currently runs a number of energy and water efficiency programs, including the SMART Energy Program. City of Palo Alto Utilities (CPAU) is a city-owned utility that provides electric, gas, water, fiber optic and wastewater services to the residents and businesses of Palo Alto, California. The utility was established in 1896 with the introduction of water supply system. The utilities founders reasoned that lower prices could be provided if the city had its own utility service, and low charges continue to be a priority for the utility. Wastewater and electric services soon followed. Today Palo Alto is the only Californian city that operates six essential utility services.
